Hot Questions
A reasonable number may be 5 or 6 schools with 3 of them being ones matching your academic needs and ability. Spread the remaining between the ones that you really want to get in but are more competitive given your records and qualifications, and the ones that you are pretty safe in terms of getting in. One tip is to consider schools with a track record of admitting students from your high school. Another tip is to avoid certain schools with programs that may be of interest to you but are extremely competitive unless you have very strong records (e.g. certain business or premed programs).
Early Decision and Early Action - What’s the difference? Should I apply to them?

In Early Decision(ED), you apply to a school by November 1 and receive an early decision in December. Once admitted, you are committed to attend. At some schools, your chances for admission and financial aid are better if you apply for ED than if you apply through Regular Decision, because you have commited to enroll once you are accepted.

In Early Action (EA), you also apply by early November and receive notice of your admission status – admitted, deferred, or denied – in December. However, you are given until May to commit acceptance, In some schools, students who are deferred admission in December may be reviewed again along with the regular applicant pool and receive a final decision in April.

If you have a clear first – choice school in mind, by all means apply for EA. (Some schools do restrict applicants for EA to apply to only one school under EA.) If you are not sure what school is the best for you to attend, just apply to different schools under the Regular Decision schedule.
